With the loss of CIPC in 2020, both growers and potato storage experts have faced increasing complexity in building in-store sprout suppression programmes. But UPL have been working hard to develop alternative sprout control options like ARGOS, and learning how best to apply it. What is it? ARGOS is a Natural Plant Protection product that’s ideal for potato sprout control. Using food grade orange oil, it effectively controls sprouting on all potato varieties and is perfect for bulk or boxed storage. How does it work? With oil extracted from the entire fruit, ARGOS is classified as a natural plant growth regulator. It’s ready to use on all types of potato tubers in storage and is applied as a hot fog. It then effectively prevents and controls sprouting for several weeks between applications. Key benefits: ARGOS doesn’t contain any chemical solvents or additives. There’s no change to taste, odour or fry colour. It’s highly flexible and compatible with other sprout suppressants like maleic hydrazide, and you can use it across your entire potato crop in all varieties for chipping, crisping and fresh markets. It’s ideal for short or longer term storage, because treated potatoes can be removed from store just 48 hours after treatment and you can apply it up to 9 times. Check out ARGOS
